Supporting the 2026 O&M Safety Inspection Workshop.

Butler County Conservation District was proud to help support and promote the recent Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Safety Inspection Workshopson February 24, 2026 at Harvey County East Lake, Newton, KS coordinated by the State Association of Kansas Watersheds (SAKW).

The trainings were conducted in partnership with:

  • Kansas Department of Agriculture – Division of Conservation
  • Kansas Water Office
  • Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)

The workshop focused on:

  • Purpose and importance of O&M inspections
  • Dam design and function fundamentals
  • State and federal policy review
  • Completion of the KS-ADS-8 Dam Inspection Form
  • On-site dam inspections in the field

Morning sessions included presentations from:

  • Sarah Diamond, SAKW Executive Director
  • Laura Gray, NRCS
  • Hakim Saadi & Jake Dooling, KDA-DOC

Operations & Maintenance training ensures watershed districts are equipped to properly inspect, document, and maintain dams that protect communities, farmland, and water resources across Kansas.

We appreciate the leadership of SAKW and state partners in providing this important continuing education opportunity.
